Letter from my Veterinarian

11/19/02To Whom it May Concern:We have been treating "Calypso", a rabbit owned by Miriam Palevsky since September 19, 2002. She is one of several rabbits showing neurological symptoms. Through many specialists have been consulted, we have no definitive diagnosis at this time. One of the specialists consulted was the mycotoxin researcher at North Carolina University. Though there have been no studies in rabbits, he feels that the levels of DON found in feed samples Ms. Palevsky submitted for testing are over safe levels. He feels the expected levels are 300-400 ppb, yet in these samples, there were 2 ppm (this comes to 2000 ppb). He feels that at these levels, we could see a variety of symptoms; GI, heart problems, neurological, and immune supression. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact me.Dr. Jeanne Friedman |
